AutoMod Setup

Thrella integrates with Discord's native AutoMod system. When Discord AutoMod triggers a rule, Thrella can automatically execute a bot-side action such as warning, muting, kicking, or banning the user -- and track it as a full case.

Requirements

  • Tier: Requires a plan that includes the AutoMod feature (check Dashboard > Billing or visit thrella.com).

How It Works

  1. You create AutoMod rules in Discord's server settings (these are Discord-native rules, not Thrella rules).
  2. When a user triggers one of those rules, Discord notifies Thrella that the rule was triggered.
  3. Thrella receives that event and checks whether you have mapped the triggered rule to a bot action.
  4. If a mapping exists and is enabled, Thrella executes the configured action (warn, mute, kick, or ban), creates a case, and logs it to the mod log channel.

This means Discord handles the content detection, and Thrella handles the enforcement and tracking.

Setup Steps

Step 1: Enable AutoMod in the Dashboard

Navigate to Dashboard > Moderation and enable the Auto-Mod toggle. This tells Thrella to start listening for AutoMod events from Discord.

Step 2: Create AutoMod Rules in Discord

Open your Discord server and go to Server Settings > Safety Setup > AutoMod. Create one or more AutoMod rules using Discord's built-in interface. Thrella supports the following trigger types:

Trigger TypeDescription
KeywordMatches messages containing specific words or phrases.
SpamDetects suspected spam content.
Keyword PresetUses Discord's built-in keyword lists (profanity, slurs, etc.).
Mention SpamTriggers when a message contains an excessive number of mentions.

Make sure the rule has at least one action configured in Discord (such as "Block Message") so that the event fires.

Step 3: Map Rules to Thrella Actions

Back in the dashboard, go to Dashboard > Moderation > AutoMod Rules. For each Discord AutoMod rule you want Thrella to respond to, create a mapping with:

  • Discord AutoMod Rule ID -- the ID of the rule you created in Discord.
  • Action -- the bot action to execute: WARN, MUTE, KICK, or BAN.
  • Reason -- the reason text to include in the case and mod log.
  • Duration (optional) -- for MUTE actions, the timeout duration.

See Action Mapping for detailed information on each action type and how durations work.

Tier Limits

The number of AutoMod action mappings you can create depends on your subscription tier. For current limits, check Dashboard > Billing or visit thrella.com. These limits apply to the total number of rule-to-action mappings, not the number of Discord AutoMod rules themselves (Discord manages its own rule limits independently).
