Channel Exclusions

Channel Exclusions let you switch security filters off in places where they don't belong - a dev channel where people legitimately paste links, a media channel full of embeds, a partner channel that shares invites. Each exclusion targets one channel or one entire category, and applies to all security filters or only the ones you pick.

Manage them on the Security page under the Exclusions tab. The feature is available on every plan, with no tier limits.

What Can Be Excluded

Exclusions cover the five deterministic message filters:

FilterExcludable
Link FilterYes
Invite FilterYes
Forward FilterYes
Block All URLsYes
Embed ScanningYes
AI DetectionNo - use the per-rule channel scoping on the AI Detection page instead
PFP FilterNo - profile picture scans are triggered by avatar changes, which have no channel
Discord AutoModNo - Discord enforces AutoMod rules server-side before the bot sees the message

How Exclusion Works

An excluded filter is fully skipped in the matched channels:

  • No scan runs (no link analysis, no embed scan)
  • No message is deleted and no action is taken
  • No case is created and nothing appears in the Detection Log
  • No alert, DM, or public notification is sent
  • Escalation rules never count anything from that channel

This is different from the Log Only filter action, which still scans and records detections. Excluded means invisible to that filter.

Category Exclusions Are Dynamic

When you exclude a category, the bot stores the category, not a snapshot of its channels:

  • A channel moved into an excluded category is covered immediately
  • A channel moved out of an excluded category is filtered again immediately
  • Channels created inside the category later are covered automatically
  • Deleting the category ends the exclusion - its former channels become uncategorized and are filtered again

Keep this in mind when reorganizing your server: moving a channel between categories can silently change whether it is filtered.

Threads Inherit Exclusions

A message in a thread (including forum and media posts) is excluded when any of these is excluded:

  1. The thread's parent channel
  2. The category containing the parent channel

So excluding #dev-links also covers every thread inside it, and excluding the Development category covers every channel and every thread in that category.

Per-Filter Scopes

Each exclusion entry is either:

  • All security filters - the channel/category is invisible to all five filters, or
  • Specific filters - pick any subset. For example, #dev-links can be excluded from the Link Filter and Invite Filter while Forward Filter and Embed Scanning still run there.

One channel or category has exactly one entry; edit it to adjust which filters it covers. Each filter's editor also shows a read-only "Not scanned in ..." summary so you can see exclusions in context.

Deleted Channels

When an excluded channel or category is deleted, the bot prunes its exclusion entry automatically. If the bot was offline during the deletion, the entry appears in the dashboard as a removable (deleted) chip - it has no effect at runtime and can be cleaned up with one click.

Notes

  • Exclusions apply to message edits and late link-preview unfurls exactly as they do to new messages - the excluded channel is skipped on every moderation path.
  • Trusted role bypasses and exclusions are independent: an exclusion skips the filter for everyone in that channel, regardless of roles.
  • Moderation commands (/warn, /ban, AutoMod action mappings, etc.) are unaffected - exclusions only disable automated message filters.
